Let them think cake

A turning point in the social sciences is ahand. Following the transformative epistemological shifts associated with the linguistic turn and cultural turn respectively, many scientists in this field now find themselves no longer in a field at all, but afoot at the precipice of a chasm, much resembling an unfamiliar kitchen. An ingredient list is thus a map, but probably not a landscape,  to a place, or non-place, in an undecidedly and reassuringly contradictory space of (un)meaning. The eggs, when not chasing the bacon round the frying pan, are sublated, typically in a bowl-shaped bowl, through a dialectical relationship with performative bodies, which we shall call flour, sugar, seasonal fructose, baking powder, milk, butter and, increasingly, NaHCO³; the urban condition, which we shall call heat energy, reveals a ‘third’ moment and the potential of a different, previously unimaginable future.

Whereas Einstein’s relativity theory would suggest that the resulting physical whole is less than the sum of its parts, with Aristotle we get the opposite; and I’m left wondering why my emergent creation, from a muffin recipe, is not a muffin at all. A new spontaneous order gives food for thought.

Let them think cake.

let them eat cake_cake is a lie
